Fake drugs, unsafe products are dangerous onslaught on human life, says NAFDAC boss

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC) Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye has described fake drugs, expired products as a dangerous onslaught on human life.

Prof Moji stated this while delivering her speech at the north-central destruction exercise of fake, falsified, substandard, expired products at the Lafia dumpsite in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Friday.

Prof Moji who was represented at the destruction exercise by Mohammed Bashir, deputy director, and plateau state coordinator said the products destroyed are estimated at a sum of N598, 088, 458, 50.

“The products being destroyed today are made up of fake/counterfeit drugs, substandard and expired food products, cosmetics, and regulated products from manufacturers, importers, and distributors seized by NAFDAC, Moji said.

Earlier in his welcome remark, Nasarawa state coordinator, Mr.Dadi Nantim disclosed that the quantum of products being destroyed is a testimony that the agency is working hard to ensure the safeguard of the health of the nation.

The state coordinator commended stakeholders, security agents for their support and assured that the agency will continue to enforce sanctions where there are violations.

Mr. Dadi noted that the agency in the state has embarked on statewide awareness on activities of fake, expired products but lamented that his office is deficient in mobility to extend regulations and services across the state.

Dadi urged residents to cooperate with the staff of the agency and not to see them as enemies. He however cautioned buyers during the Yuletide period to check date markings, proper addresses, and NAFDAC number of any consumables products.
