Officials of the Ondo State government have celebrated the ranking of the State as having the lowest poverty level in the country with 27 percent.

The figure which was presented during the launch of Nigeria’s Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Survey resulted from a survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the National Social Safety-Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI).

Five components of health, living standard, education, security and unemployment were used as the standard.

Immediate past Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), Gbenga Edema, has said that the ranking was an indication of good governance in the state.

Edema who hailed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the stride said it was an attestation that everything was right in the state.

Governor Akeredolu, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, said his administration has continued to prioritise the need to lift the people of the state out of poverty.
