Arsenal target Tariq Lamptey set to miss rest of season for Brighton

Seagulls blow

The Athletics’ David Ornstein has reported today that Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey is set to miss the rest of the season for Brighton, after surgery on his injured hamstring, in what will be a major blow in their fight for Premier League survival.

Lamptey, who signed for the Seagulls from Chelsea in January 2020, is set to return to training before the season ends but not first team action. He has been a key member of manager Graham Potter’s team and signed a long term contract with the club.

However he was injured in a 0-0 draw with Fulham before Christmas and Brighton’s form has dipped alarmingly recently, losing 3 games in a row and sitting outside the relegation places on goal difference.

With Fulham starting to show form Brighton will need stop their slump sooner rather than later and their upcoming tie with Newcastle on the 20th March looks like a significant fixture in the run in.

Bellerin replacement

101 have previously reported on Arsenal’s interest in Lamptey and him possibly replacing Hector Bellerin, and Fabrizio Romano speaking on the ‘Here We Go Podcast’ last week, confirmed that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are monitoring the England U21 International.

Should Bellerin leave for pastures new, Lamptey has the makings of a player who would fit seamlessly into the Gunners back four and adding the attacking threat they like their full backs to have.
