Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s debut in the English Championship ended in disappointment as Middlesbrough lost 3-1 to Sheffield United.

Iheanacho, who joined Boro on loan from Sevilla until the end of the season, was given a starting position for his first match, alongside Sam Iling-Junior, who also made his debut.

The game took place at Bramall Lane, where the second-placed hosts began on the attack, looking to make early inroads.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi forced a save from Mark Travers, who also did well to deflect a dangerous corner from Gustavo Hamer.

Sheffield United was rewarded for their strong start with a goal just after the half-hour mark, but Middlesbrough responded positively.

As half-time approached, Boro equalized when Delano Burgzorg converted a penalty. The second half was evenly contested and could have gone either way.

However, with 15 minutes left, Sheffield United regained the lead and secured the victory with a third goal in the closing stages.
